Dental X-rays Denver NC

While a routine dental visit and examination allow the dental team at Denver Dental Arts to evaluate a patient’s smile, it also offers the opportunity to take a series of x-rays, or dental radiography, to see what is happening where the eyes cannot see. X-rays allow Drs. Nathen Ellis and Gary Hubbard a chance to evaluate the bone’s health, the condition of the teeth and find if there are any underlying dental issues. This is a comprehensive way to evaluate the smile for teeth problems such as periodontal disease, cavities, or impacted wisdom teeth.

Why are dental x-rays important?

Our dental team stresses the benefits of routine dental x-rays because they make it easier to diagnose various problems that can develop far before they are noticeable in a simple physical evaluation. Problems might be covered and left undiagnosed to the point where they cause unwanted damage to the teeth and gums before they are physically seen. Dental x-rays are also used for evaluating children to ensure their teeth are developing as expected underneath the gum line.

Who is a candidate for dental x-rays?

Our dental team does not always take dental x-rays at each recall visit unless the patient has been struggling with dental problems that our team needs to monitor closely. Every few years, our team might take an x-ray; or for new patients with no dental history information available. Dental radiography exposes patients to a minute amount of radiation, making them safe to undergo.

When are dental x-rays done?

  • During a patient’s first dental appointment at our facility.
  • When the dentist is preparing for oral surgery, such as the placement of dental implants.
  • If there are concerns regarding the bone of the jaw or the inside of the teeth.
  • To check for progress with periodontal disease treatment.
