Implant-supported dentures, or “implant-retained” dentures, are a wonderful improvement over traditional full dentures used to replace all the teeth within the upper and/or lower dental arches. At Denver Dental Arts in Denver, NC, Drs. Nathen Ellis and Spencer Stewart are pleased to offer this as an alternative for patients seeking full repair and restoration of their smile.

What are implant-supported dentures?

While a typical denture will rest on the patient’s gums and require the use of messy denture adhesives, an implant-supported denture will attach to posts called dental implants along the bone for better functionality and improved confidence. These artificial snap-on teeth are a desirable alternative to traditional dentures and continue to be a popular choice for the patients at Denver Dental Arts.

How does an implant-supported denture work?

A traditional denture is made of acrylic and includes false teeth and gums. Patients use denture adhesives to keep the traditional denture in place as best they can. However, dental resorption, bone loss, and other consequences of lost natural teeth can cause the smile to constantly change, requiring patients to have their dentures adjusted or completely remade on a regular basis. Instead, the implant-supported denture works with four dental implants placed along the dental arch. The implants maintain natural bone, avoiding the sunken-in appearance of the jaw that typically occurs with denture wearers. These implants are solid within the jawbone foundation, and then stabilize more conservative false teeth. These oral appliances are supported fully by the dental implant, providing the best function while also helping patients maintain their natural jawbone.

What are the benefits of implant-supported dentures?

  • A wise investment in the smile
  • More conservative oral appliance
  • Better function and stability of full dentures
  • Improved bone conservation
  • Natural appearance and functionality
